How much does Etsy take per sale? It’s not 6.5%
Etsy’s 6.5% is only the transaction fee. For a US seller, a $30 sale pays $3.30 in fees, about 11%, once you add the $0.20 listing fee and 3% + $0.25 processing.
Etsy’s 6.5% transaction fee is only one of three fees a US seller pays to sell an item. There is also the $0.20 listing fee, and Etsy Payments processing of 3% of the order total plus $0.25. The video works them through for a crocheter who sells a $30 plushie with free shipping, before sales tax: $0.20 + $1.95 + $1.15 = $3.30, about 11% of the sale. If the order came from one of Etsy’s Offsite Ads, a shop with under $10,000 in yearly sales pays another 15% of the order, for $7.80 in fees, over a quarter. A shop under $10,000 can opt out of Offsite Ads; once it reaches $10,000, it can no longer opt out and pays 12% from then on. Either rate is capped at $100 an order. Because $0.45 of the fees is fixed, cheaper items pay a bigger share: about 14% on a $10 item. Payment processing rates differ for bank accounts outside the US, and some countries add a regulatory operating fee.

How much does Etsy take per sale? Hint: not 6.5%.
Definition
That’s only the transaction fee. A US seller pays three.
The three fees
$0.20 to list it. 6.5% of the price and shipping. And payment processing: 3% of the total, plus $0.25.
Example
A crocheter sells a $30 plushie, free shipping, before tax. Etsy takes $3.30: 11%.
Offsite Ads
From an Etsy Offsite Ad, a shop under $10,000 in sales pays another 15% of the order: $7.80, over a quarter.
Takeaway
On a $30 sale, plan for 11%. More on cheaper items and ad sales.
Sources
- Etsy charges a listing fee of $0.20 USD for each item listed; listings expire after four months and auto-renew at $0.20; a multi-quantity listing renews at $0.20 after each item sells: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy, Listing Fees (last updated Oct 5, 2026) (opens in new tab)
- The transaction fee is 6.5% of the displayed price plus the amount charged for shipping and gift wrapping; for US sellers it does not apply to sales tax: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy, Transaction Fees (last updated Oct 5, 2026) (opens in new tab)
- The payment processing fee is assessed on the total amount of the sale, including tax and shipping, and varies with the location of the seller’s bank account: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy, Payment Processing Fees (last updated Oct 5, 2026) (opens in new tab)
- The Etsy Payments processing fee for the United States is 3% + 0.25 USD: Etsy Payments Policy, payment processing fees by country (accessed Oct 21, 2026) (opens in new tab)
- Offsite Ads fees are 15% of an attributed order for shops with under $10,000 USD in sales over the prior 365 days (these shops may opt out), and 12% once a shop has reached $10,000 (for the life of the shop), charged on price plus shipping and gift wrap, capped at $100 per order: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy, Offsite Ads Fees (last updated Oct 5, 2026) (opens in new tab)
- $0.20 + 6.5% × $30 ($1.95) + (3% × $30 + $0.25) ($1.15) = $3.30, 11% of $30; adding 15% × $30 ($4.50) gives $7.80, 26%; on a $10 item, $0.20 + $0.65 + $0.55 = $1.40, 14%: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy rates (the US processing rate is from the Etsy Payments Policy above), applied to a $30 order and a $10 item with free shipping and no sales tax (opens in new tab)
- Sellers in certain countries are charged a Regulatory Operating fee on each transaction, in addition to the other fees: Etsy Fees & Payments Policy, Regulatory Operating Fees (last updated Oct 5, 2026) (opens in new tab)
