Connect Your Shopify Store

Link your Shopify store so orders become sales and stock stays in step at every location

Included on every plan — connect in a few minutes

The Shopify integration imports your paid orders as sale transactions, pulls in your products and variants, and pushes stock quantities back to your store, location by location, whenever your inventory changes. It is included on every plan, including Free; your plan only sets how many shops you can connect. This guide walks through connecting a store for the first time; for what the integration does and why, see the Shopify integration overview, and for what happens after connecting see How Shopify Sync Works.

Before you start

  • You need settings access. Connecting a store requires a role that can manage settings. Account owners always have it; if you don't see Integrations under Settings, ask your account owner.
  • The Marketplace module must be enabled. If it isn't yet, the Integrations card under Settings shows a "Requires Marketplace module" badge. The card still opens, and you can enable the module from there on any plan.
  • Check your shop limit. Your plan sets how many shops you can connect at once, across Shopify and Etsy together. The Integrations page shows a counter such as "1 / 2 connected shops"; at the limit, an "Upgrade to connect more shops" link takes you to billing.
  • Know your store's permanent address. Every Shopify store has a my-store.myshopify.com address, shown under Settings → Domains in your Shopify admin. That is the address Ardent Seller connects to. A custom domain such as shop.example.com will not work.
  • One Ardent Seller account per store. A store can be connected to only one Ardent Seller account. If it is already connected elsewhere, the connection is rejected with "This shop is already connected to an Ardent Seller account."
  • Password-protected and development stores. A store that is still password-protected or is a Shopify development store is detected when you connect and refused with a clear message, so you don't end up with a half-working connection.

Step 1: Install and approve

There are two ways in, and they end in the same place.

From the Shopify App Store. Install Ardent Seller on your store and pick a plan there. Shopify grants the access the app needs during the install and sends you to Ardent Seller. Sign in, or create an account if you are new; you land on Settings → Integrations with your store's address already filled in. Click "Connect Shopify Store" to finish. If your login belongs to several Ardent Seller accounts, switch to the one that should own the store first.

From Ardent Seller. If you already use Ardent Seller, go to Settings → Integrations (open Integrations), click "Connect Shopify Store", enter your store's myshopify.com address and continue. Shopify shows its own approval page listing what Ardent Seller can read and change; approve it and Shopify sends you back to Ardent Seller.

Either way, Ardent Seller asks Shopify to read products, inventory, locations, orders and customers, and to write inventory and products (the access scopes are read_products, write_products, read_inventory, write_inventory, read_locations, read_orders and read_customers). Ardent Seller checks the store before saving anything, so if a scope is missing or the store is not ready you see the reason and nothing is created. Your new connection opens with its store locations already pulled in.

Step 2: Map your store locations

Shopify keeps stock per location, and so does Ardent Seller. On the connection's Locations tab, match each Shopify location to one of your Ardent Seller locations (see Locations & Entities). Each row has two switches:

  • Sync stock — whether stock at that Shopify location is kept in step with the mapped Ardent Seller location. A location left unmapped or switched off is ignored in both directions.
  • Fallback for unmapped — exactly one mapping is the primary. Orders that ship from an unmapped location, and orders that have not been fulfilled yet, are recorded at the primary mapping's Ardent Seller location. The primary also becomes the connection's default location if you have not chosen one in the connection settings.

Click "Save mappings". If you add or rename a location in Shopify later, "Refresh from store" pulls the list again; locations you deactivate in Shopify are flagged here and stop receiving stock pushes.

Each Shopify product variant maps to one inventory item, and that link is what turns an order line into a stock movement on the right product. Products are pulled in during the first sync and every 6 hours after that. Ardent Seller links them by SKU first: a variant whose SKU exactly matches one of your items is linked automatically, even if that item is already linked to an Etsy listing. Variants without a SKU get a match key built from the product's numeric ID, in the form SHOPIFY-1234567890.

Link the rest yourself on the connection's Listings tab: filter to unlinked listings, then link each one to an existing item or create a new product from the listing. A product with several variants shows one row per variant.

Opening stock: when a variant is linked and the store has quantity available, Ardent Seller records an initial transaction that seeds the item's on-hand quantity to match the store, dated at the start of your import window so the imported sales history subtracts correctly. See How Stock Moves.

Billing when you installed from the App Store

If you installed Ardent Seller from the Shopify App Store, the plan you chose there is billed by Shopify and appears on your Shopify bill. The plans and limits are the same as on the website; change plan from Settings → Billing with "Change plan in Shopify", or from the app in your Shopify admin. Details are in Billing & Plans.

If you already subscribe to Ardent Seller directly, connecting a Shopify store does not start a second subscription. You keep your existing plan and are never charged twice.

Disconnect, uninstall, or reconnect

  • Disconnect Shop stops all syncing and forgets the store's access token. Your imported transactions, product links, location mappings and sync history are preserved.
  • Uninstalling the app in Shopify does the same from the other side: Shopify tells Ardent Seller, the connection shows Disconnected, and a plan billed through Shopify ends at the close of its current billing cycle.
  • Reconnect runs the approval again for the same store (a different store is refused). Your product links, location mappings and settings are restored where the items still exist, and a fresh sync catches up on the last 90 days. After an uninstall, reinstall from the App Store or use "Connect Shopify Store" again.
  • Delete Connection is available only after disconnecting and is permanent: it removes the product links, location mappings, sync history and imported order records for the connection. Transactions already in your books are kept.

Security and privacy

The connection uses Shopify's OAuth authorization: you sign in and approve on Shopify's own pages, never in Ardent Seller, so your Shopify password is never seen or stored by Ardent Seller. The access tokens Shopify issues expire after an hour and are renewed automatically; they are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, never shown in the app and never written to logs. You can revoke access at any time with Disconnect Shop here, or by uninstalling the app in your Shopify admin.

Ardent Seller reads customer names and emails only to match or create the customer on an imported order, and only when the connection's customer settings allow it. Shopify's data requests and erasure notices for your customers are received and honoured automatically.

Once connected, syncing runs on its own. Read How Shopify Sync Works for what syncs in each direction and when.
